Annie
Van Wetzinga enters her second season as an assistant coach with the Indiana
State Sycamores.
For three seasons, she had been an assistant coach at Pleasant Valley High School in Bettendorf, Iowa. She helped led that team to a pair of conference championships and the first state appearance in school history.
The team finished third during the 2005 campaign in Class 3A. During her three years with the school, she coached a total of six all-staters.
Van Wetzinga played collegiate softball at Central College in Pella, Iowa. She was a four-year starter at the catching position and was a four-time all-region and three-time all-conference selection. She was a two-time All-American, earning second team honors in 2000 and first team plaudits in 2001. A co-captain as a senior, Van Wetzinga was the 2001 National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association Catcher of the Year for Division III.
When her playing days were over, Van Wetzinga held school records for career RBI, Home Runs, Doubles as well as the single-season record for runners picked off.
She is currently enrolled in the Indiana State Sports and Recreation Program. Her brother Rusty played football and was a wrestler at Augustana College (Ill.) and was a three-time All-American linebacker as well as an All-American wrestler.
