CAMP DIRECTOR
Mark Rodriguez
Former NCAA Division I thrower, currently the thrower's coach at Indiana State University. During his years at the high school level and into his 13th year at the college level, Rodriguez has coached countless state finalists, 101 National qualification performances, 61 National Qualifiers, 20 Academic All-Americans, 17 All-Americans, 5 Olympic Trials Qualifiers, 29 U.S. Championships Qualifiers, 4 World Police and Fire Games Silver Medalists, an NCAA National Champion and has had throwers ranked in the world 45 times. Last year he has had 2 current and 1 fomer thrower finish in the top 30 in the world. Coach Rodriguez has worked with or trained under many Olympic throwers and has trained with the Russian throwers in Moscow. Below are some of the instructors that have worked the camp in the past. Depending on their schedules, weâll have some of them back and a few additional highly skilled world class athletes and instructors.
PAST CAMP INSTRUCTORS
Dan Armentrout
As an Indiana State University thrower, along with qualifying for the 1997 NCAA National Championships and 1997 USATF Indoor Championships, Dan hit provisional National Qualifying marks eight times in his college career in 4 throwing events. Dan won the Athlete of the Meet Award in 1997. In 1997, Dan was nationally ranked by T&F News as 41st in the hammer, 36th in the shot and 16th in the 35 lbs. weight. His personal best of 65'10 1/4" ranked Dan 25th in the world in the weight throw. He also has a best of 176' 3 in the discus, 60'6" in the shot put and 209'4" in the hammer. He was a silver medalist in the shot put, discus and hammer throw at the 2001 World Police and Fireman Games and qualified for the 2001 US Indoor Championships.

Christy Barrett
Christy was a four time NCAA Division I All-American and three-time National Runner-Up in the shot put while competing at Indiana State University. She was also a three time National Strength and Conditioning All-American. Christy was a 1992 Olympic trials qualifier and participated in the 1990 Olympic Festival and 1991 World University Games. She was also a member of the USA/Great Britain Team in 1992 and the 1993 World Championship Team. She was a 2001 inductee to Indiana Stateâs Athletic Hall of Fame. Christy's personal record in the discus is 157'2" and is 58'7" in the shot put.
Jenny Folz
Jenny was a two-time Illinois shot put State Champion in H.S. In 1999 she became a two-time NCAA Division I All-American in the weight throw and hammer for Indiana State as well as qualifying in the shot indoors and outdoors. Folz was also a six-time MVC Conference Champion. She is a 13-time US Championships qualifier since 1998 placing as high as 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th in the Nation. Jenny was only the third US women ever to throw over 70' in the weight. She finished ranked 12th in the world in 1999, 5th in the world in 2000, 11th in the world in 2001, 14th in the world in 2002  and 20th in the world in 2003 in the weight. In 1999 she was a National Strength and Conditioning All-American. She qualified with the A standard for the 2000 Olympic trials in the hammer and shot put. She placed 4th in the qualifying round going into the finals. Her personal bests are 210'8" hammer, 70'3 3/4" weight throw, 57'5 3/4" shot put, 173'10" discus, and 144'2" javelin.
Beth Hilton
Former Indiana State thrower out of Terre Haute Indiana and a 1998 Indiana State Throws Camp camper.  Beth was a six-time Missouri Valley Conference Champion in the shot put, discus, hammer and 20 lb. weight throw, received All-Conference honors 12 times and was selected as the 2003 MVC Field Athlete of the Meet for both the Indoor and Outdoor Championships.  Beth holds the ISU Freshman school records in the weight throw and the hammer throw and is on ISUâs Top Ten list at 3rd in the weight throw, 5th in the indoor shot put, 7th in the discus, 6th in the outdoor shot put, and 3rd in the hammer.  Beth provisionally qualified for the NCAA Nationals in the weight throw and the hammer throw every year since her sophomore year and in her senior year qualified for the newly instated NCAA Regionals in the shot put, discus and the hammer.  Beth finished as high as 17th in the Nation in the weight throw at the 2001 NCAA Indoor Nationals.  Beth was a National Strength and Conditioning All-American and a three-time USTCA Academic All-American.  Beth qualified for the US Indoor National Championships three times finishing as high as 10th and 11th in the Nation.  Beth was ranked in the world 3 times in the weight throw ranking as high as 21st in the world.  Hilton has bests of 47â7 3/4" in the shot put, 63â5" in the weight throw, 187â0" in the hammer and 152â8" in the discus.
Holly Hyland
Holly was a three-time Wisconsin H.S. State Discus Champion. At Indiana State University, Holly was a four-time NCAA Division I Provisional National Qualifier in the discus, hammer and weight throw. Holly was also ranked in the world in those events. She was also a three-time US Championships qualifier in the weight throw. Her personal bests are 169'5" hammer, 168'3 discus and 56'1 weight throw.
Adam Judge
Currently training for the 2004 Olympic trials in which he has qualified for in the hammer. Adam was a thrower out of Lincoln High School in Des Moines, Iowa. He went to Barton County Community College and was a 2-time NJCAA National Champion in the weight and All-American in the hammer and discus throw. From there he went to Southern Illinois University and was a two time MVC Champion in the weight, with a school record and personal best of 69'4", and hammer, breaking the school and MVC conference records. Judge placed 13th in the nation in the weight at the US Indoor National Championship and was also a 10th place NCAA All-American. He then transferred to Indiana University. There he became the Big Ten Champion, Mideast Regional Champion and 9th place NCAA All-American in the hammer. He also placed 14th in the nation at the US Outdoor National Championships. He has personal bests of 149'0" in the discus and 223'5" in the hammer.
Julie Koebcke
Julie was the 1991 Indiana H.S. State Discus Champion. At Indiana State University, Julie was a three-time NCAA Division I All-American in the Discus. She was also an Academic All-American and two-time National Strength and Conditioning All-American. Julie was named the 1995 NCAA Woman of the Year for the state of Indiana. Julie automatically qualified for the 1996 Olympic trials in which she placed 13th in the Nation. She was just 11 inches short of making the finals. Her personal bests are 180'9" discus and 50'5" shot.
Tara Loper
Currently training at Ashland training under former Olympian Jud Logan.  Tara was a two-time State Champion in the shot put and three-time state champion in the discus in the state of Mississippi. Also broke the MPSA state discus record. As a collegiate at Butler University Tara was the 2000 MCC Champion in the shot; the 1997 & 1998 MCC Champion and school record holder in the discus; the 1999 MCC Champion and school record holder in the weight throw; and the 2000 MCC Champion and school record holder in the hammer. Was named the MCC Most Outstanding Performer and Butler Team MVP in 1998 and 2000. As a post-collegiate Tara qualified for the US Indoor Championships where she finished 7th in 2001, 6th in 2002 and 5th in 2003.  Her PR in the weight is 69'0". She finished with a world ranking of 22nd in 2001, 8th in 2002 and 7th in 2003. She finished 12th, 13th and 11th in the hammer at the 2001, 2002 and 2003 US Outdoor Championships. Her PR thus far is 210'9" in the hammer, 174'2" in the discus and 47'0" in the shot put.
Josh Mastison
Former Indiana State thrower out of Evansville Indiana and a 1997 Indiana State Throws Camp camper.  Josh was a two-time Missouri Valley Conference Champion in the shot put and 35 lb. weight throw, received All-Conference honors 11 times and was selected as the 2003 MVC Field Athlete of the Meet for the Indoor Championships.  Josh holds the ISU school record in the weight throw with a best of 65â4" and is on ISUâs Top Ten list at 3rd in the discus, 9th in the indoor shot put, 10th in the outdoor shot put, and 10th in the hammer.  Josh provisionally qualified for the NCAA Nationals in the weight throw every year since his sophomore year and in his senior year qualified for newly instated NCAA Regionals in the shot put, discus and the hammer.  Josh was a two-time National Strength and Conditioning All-American and a two-time USTCA Academic All-American.  Josh qualified for the US Indoor National Championships twice.  Josh was ranked in the world 3 times in the weight throw ranking as high as 29th in the world.  Mastison has bests of 56â3 3/4" in the shot put, 185â9" in the hammer and 181â5" in the discus.
Matt McBrier
Former Indiana State thrower and 6-time MVC placer in the weight throw, hammer and javelin.  Matt is from Dekalb High School in NE Indiana.  Matt's older brother Brandon was a National qualifier for Coach Rodriguez in the Javelin in 1995.  Brandon recently was a Silver Medalist at the 2001 World Police and Fire Games.  Matt's PR's of 61'5"  weight throw and 192'5" hammer just missed qualifying for Nationals by 11 inches and 4 feet.  Matt finished ranked at #7 in the hammer, #8 in the weight and #10 with a PR of 169'3" in the javelin  on ISU's All-Time List.
Brandon Murer
Former Assistant Throws Coach at Indiana State University. While at Indiana State, Brandon was a 1994 Junior Nationals All-American in the hammer. A four-time conference placer and two-time All-Conference selection in the 35 lb. weight throw and hammer. In 1996 Brandon provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Nationals in the weight throw. In 1997 he was the MVC Conference Runner-Up in the hammer behind teammate and throws camp instructor Dan Armentrout. His personal bests are 60'6" in the weight throw and 192'1" in the hammer.
Carrie Myers
Carrie was a 2-time NCAA All-American at Indiana State University in the weight throw. She was a 6-time NCAA National Qualifier and 7-Time US Championship Qualifier. In 2000 she finished 4th in the NCAA's and finished ranked 8th in the World. Her personal best and school record weight throw of 67'1 1/4" was the 12th best throw in the event's history. Carrie also qualified for the Olympic trials in the hammer with a school record throw of 202'9". That ranked her 75 in the World in 2000. Carrie was a 2000 NSCA All-American and was selected as the 2000 USATF Indiana Woman of the Year.
Connie Price-Smith
Originally from St. Charles, Missouri. Connie didnât start throwing till her senior year at Southern Illinois University. Her career highlights would fill three pages, but here are some of the most spectacular ones. Connie is a 4-time Olympian ('88, '92, '96, '00); 12-time U.S. Outdoor SP champion ('88, '90, '92-00); 6-time U.S. Indoor SP champion ('91, '92, '93, '96, '98, '00); 1995 World Indoor SP silver medalist; 1998 World Cup SP bronze medalist; 1995, 1999 Pan Am Games SP champion; 1998 Goodwill Games SP silver medalist; 1999 Pan Am Games champion; 3-time Olympic Trials SP champion; 2-time Olympic Trials discus champion; 6-time U.S. DT champion. Her PR's are 64-3 3/4 in the shot put and 212'8" in the discus.
Rob Roeder
Former NCAA Division I thrower at Oregon State University.  He was ranked 4th in the Nation in the hammer throw in 1976.  Competed in the 1976 Olympic Trials and was a finalist in the 1972 Olympic Trials.  Rob was the 1971 Canadian National Champion.  His personal best in the hammer was 218'2".  He was also a former NCAA Division I thrower's coach at Oregon State University and Southern Illinois University.  Rob also had a coaching stint in Saudi Arabia.  Rob has helped countless to athletes develop and improve their skills as throwers.
Serene Ross
Originally from New Wilmington H.S in Edinburg, PA and former thrower 4-time All-American thrower at Purdue University. Currently a post-collegiate athlete for the Indiana Invaders. Serene was the Big Ten hammer champ in 2000 as well as a 6th place NCAA All-American in the javelin. She placed 19th in the javelin at the 2000 Olympic Trials.  In 2001 she placed 7th at the World University Games and 3rd at the US Outdoor Championships.  In 2002 she was the NCAA Champion in the javelin, the US Outdoor National Champion and finished 5th at the world Cup.  She currently holds the American Record in the javelin at 197'0".  Her other personal bests are 192'5" in the hammer, 63'8" in the weight throw and 137'2" in the discus. She was also recognized as the 2002 USATF Indiana Athlete of the Year.
Sam Serano
Originally from Schaumburg, Illinois, Serrano was a thrower Illinois State University.  At ISU Sam an MVC Conference Champ in the shot in 2001 and a MVC Champ in the weight throw in 2002.  She was All-Conference 12 times in the shot indoors and out and in the weight, hammer and discus.  In 2000 Serrano was an NCAA  All-American in the weight.  She also holds her school record in the weight at 61'7".  the rest of her personal bests are 47'6" in the shot, 151'0" in the discus and 180'7" in the hammer.
John Smith
Currently the throws coach at The Ohio State University. John was the Midwest champion in the shot put while at Portage High School in Indiana. At Southern Illinois University, Smith won eight Missouri Valley Conference titles in the shot put, discus and hammer and participated in five national championships, with All-American honors coming in his seventh place NCAA finish in the shot put. After graduating, Smith was a member of two Olympic Festival teams and a part of the USA vs. Great Britain National Team. John was the track and field coach and the strength and conditioning coach at Southern Illinois University from 1984-86. During his tenure, he coached four NCAA All-Americans and nine Missouri Valley Champions. Prior to joining the OSU staff, Smith coached his wife Connie Price-Smith, a four-time Olympian, to 22 combined U.S. national titles in the shot put and discus. Smith has also been involved with personal high school coaching in shot put and discus since 1980. He trained 20 Indiana state champions and five Track & Field News High School All-Americans. Two of his student-athletes were national champions and five were named to the U.S. Junior National Team. In the past three seasons at OSU, Smith has coached 13 Big Ten Champions and 10 NCAA All-Americans in the throws.

Michael W. Wildt
Current Head Men's Track Coach at Iroquois H.S. in Kentucky. Former nationally ranked high school thrower and NCAA Division I All-Conference thrower at Butler University. Included in Coach Wildt's 24 years experience in track & field was 3 years as an NCAA Division I throws coach at the University of Louisville. He has coached many state finalist in Indiana and 29 AAU and USATF National Qualifiers. Among his many regional and state finalists, Coach Wildts had over 20 age-group All-Americans and 2 National Champions in the throws.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Video Analysis
Each camper will select & receive 1of 5 lecture tapes, about an hour long each, by Coach Rodriguez valued at $20 each. Additional tapes may be purchased at $20 each. Each camper will also be video taped throwing the shot put and discus and analyzed on tape by Coach Rodriguez.

Camp Dates: June 15-17, 2004

Camp Schedule:
Check-in will be Tuesday, June 15th between 10:00 a.m. and Noon at the Hulman Memorial Student Union Commons Area.. First session begins at 1:30 p.m. that same day. We will have three technical sessions each day beginning at 9:00 a.m. Check-out will be Thursday, June 17th following the early afternoon session (approximately 3:00 p.m.)

Camper Fees:
Resident camper fee is $255.00. This covers room & board, medical insurance, camp t-shirt, videotape and all instruction. A registration deposit of $100.00 must accompany your application. The balance is due at the time of check-in. Day camper fee is $205.00. This covers noon and evening meal, medical insurance, camp t-shirt, videotape and all instruction. A registration deposit of $50.00 must accompany your application. The balance is due at the time of check-in.

Family Discount:
This discount applies to resident camper's only.  The first camper will be charged the regular rate, every sibling thereafter will be charged a rate of $205.00. Deposit remains the same.

Team Discount:
This discount applies to resident camper's only.  If five or more campers come from the same school, each of those five camper's fees will be reduced to $235.00.  Deposit remains the same.

To Enroll:
Fill out the printable or online application and return it with your check payable to Mark Rodriguez - Throws Camp. Detailed camp schedule, parental release form and medical release form (a copy of the campers school physical may replace the signed medical release form) will be sent out following receipt of the application and just prior to camp.

Deadline:
There is no deadline, we have accepted campers on the day of camp but those who have not registered by June 18th are not guaranteed a camp t-shirt.

Transportation:
Campers must provide their own transportation to and from camp.

1. Throwing Implements (its better to bring them in a throwing bag and make sure your discus & shots are marked with your name or your schoolâs name).

2. Throwing shoes (or smooth bottomed shoes to throw in).

3. An old towel to wipe off the implements.

4.Workout gear for 3 days/7 sessions.

5. Casual clothing.

6. Swim suit.

7. Blanket.

8. Towels and toilet articles.

9. Sun Block.

10. Fan.
