ISU CONCLUDES FINAL WARM-UP BEFORE MVC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –
Indiana State competed in the final warm-up of the season before the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships at the Hoosier Hills Invitational this weekend. The meet featured individual winners and several season-best times for the athletes during the competition.

Sean Wright, Drew Traub, Hanif Muhammed, Jason Carruthers and Santia Spight headlined the Sycamore finishes with individual victories in their respective events.

Wright, a 400-meter runner, ran out of his typical event and crossed the finish line first in the 200-meter dash with a season-best time of 22.05. Traub and Carruthers continued to excel in the throwing events with individual wins in the shot put and 35 lb. weight throw, respectively. Carruthers took first with a distance of 65’5.5”, nearly five feet more than second place, while Traub threw an NCAA provisional distance of 58’6.75” in the shot.

Muhammed and Spight propelled themselves to first-place finishes in jumping events. Spight’s leap of 5’6” was tops in the field in the high jump, Muhammed’s 23’2.5” leap in the long jump also was best in the competition.

Other impressive finishes for the women included Valara Anderson in the 200-meter dash (25.59, 3rd), Margaret Reyling in the 800-meter run (2:22.25, 3rd), Hannah Weide in the 400-meter dash (58.29, 3rd) and Myra Bess’ second place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (8.98) was the top collegiate finish in the competition.

The men also tallied a handful of top-five finishes, including Anthony Bertoli’s second-place finish in the pole vault with a career-best height of 15’11”, Jake Hack ran the tenth fastest time in ISU history with his third-place 1:21.59 time in the 600-meter dash, Kyle Walsh improved on his 800-meter time finishing fourth with a time of 1:54.87 with teammate Brad Ada close on his heels in fifth-place finishing at 1:55.20.

Blaine Zimmerman finished fourth in the mile with a time of 4:11.45 and put him in the top-five of the conference. Jordan Fife also ran his best time in the mile this season in sixth-place, crossing the line at 4:13.84.

The track teams will now prepare for the MVC Indoor Championships next weekend being held on the campus of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
