TRACK AND FIELD TO FACE BIG-TEN TRIO ON SATURDAY

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The men and women’s track and field teams will once again hit the track when they travel to Bloomington on Saturday for the Indiana Quadrangular Meet. The Sycamores will face Big Ten foes Indiana, Ohio State and Purdue.

ISU is coming off of a split last weekend at Illinois State with the women coming out on top 76-67, while the men, hindered by injury, lost by a score of 80-67. The Sycamores were once again strong in the field events on both sides with ISU sweeping all of the throwing events when Ebony White taking both the women’s shot put and weight throw and Jason Carruthers (weight throw) and Drew Traub (shot put) placing first for the men.

Indiana State was also strong in the jumping events, despite the absence of triple-jumpers on the men’s side. Freshmen Anthony Bertoli and Curt Sunderland took individual wins in the pole vault and high jump, respectively while the women placed first in all of the events with Janae Bridges (long jump), Yolanda Wright (triple jump), Santia Spight (high jump) and Nikki Royer (pole vault) coming out on top.

With all three schools coming from the Big Ten, this weekend’s meet with put the Sycamores up against strong competition. Indiana’s men’s team placed second at last year’s Big Ten Indoor Championships while Ohio State and Purdue placed sixth and seventh, respectively. The women from each school will look to improve on a 2005 season that saw Ohio State finish fifth, Indiana seventh and Purdue last in the Big Ten.

The meet is scheduled to begin 11:15 at the Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse on the campus of Indiana University.
