FIFE GARNERS ALL-AMERICAN STATUS WITH NINTH-PLACE FINISH

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Indiana State senior Jordan Fife ran to a ninth-place finish in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday afternoon. The performance secured All-American status for the native of Seymour, Indiana for the second consecutive year.

“I was really happy today with the way things turned out,” Fife said after his 8:45.53 finishing time. “I wanted to make sure that I did as well as I could and stay with the group for as long as I could.”

Fife, suffering from a head cold and allergies since touching down in California, was running in last place heading into the final 200 meters, but was able to kick his way past five athletes en route to the finish.

“It was really quite an effort today,” men’s track coach John McNichols said of the performance. “I was worried about how his cold would impact his breathing, but he ran like there wasn’t any problem at all.”

Fife will now prepare for the USA Track and Field Championships held in Indianapolis, June 22-25 and compete against some of the best competition in the nation.
