BERTOLI FINISHES TENTH AT USA TRACK & FIELD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indiana State freshman and Terre Haute South graduate Anthony Bertoli finished tenth of 20 competitors in the decathlon at the USA Track and Field Junior Championships. The event pits the nations best juniors (under 20 years) with qualifying marks met during the season.

Bertoli shined brightest in the pole vault competition, placing first among the athletes after clearing a height of 15 feet 9 inches. The freshman also placed in the top five in the 400-meter dash with a third-place time of 50.15 (one-hundreths of a second out of second) and in the 1,500-meter run as he finished fifth, crossing the line at 4:35.43.

Bertoli’s final score of 6347 was just short of his personal best of 6375 set at the Drake Relays earlier this year.

Competition at the USA Track and Field Championships and Junior Championships continues today with ISU freshman Sean Wright running in the preliminaries of the 400-meter dash and senior Jordan Fife running in the preliminaries of the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase.
