ISU TRACK & FIELD
RECOGNIZED FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State’s women’s
track and field team was named All-Academic by the U.S. Track &
Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for noteworthy
scholastic and athletic achievement. Seniors Yolanda Wright, Melissa
Ullenbruch, Jordan Fife and Charlie Sparks were recognized individually
as they were named to the USTFCCCA’s All-Academic team.
Wright, a senior from Bartonsville, Illinois, bounded to a tenth-place
finish in the women’s triple jump at the NCAA Regional meet
with a mark of 40 feet 8.5 inches. Ullenbruch, came back from an
ankle injury that caused her outdoor season in 2005 to come to an
end by clearing 12 feet 6 inches, en route to an eighth-place finish
in the women’s pole vault at the same meet.
The women’s track team joined the men’s and women’s
cross county team as being recognized by a coaches association during
the year for academic excellence.
Sparks and Fife advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships
for the second year in a row. Sparks missed the finals in the men’s
discus, but Fife ran to a ninth-place finish in the men’s
steeplechase to garner All-American status.
Each athlete qualified for the recognition after meeting NCAA national
or regional qualifying marks during the season and maintaining at
least a 3.25 grade point average in the classroom.
