BERTOLI FINISHES TOP AMONG FRESHMEN AT DRAKE RELAYS

DES MOINES, Iowa – Indiana State freshman Anthony Bertoli was the top freshman finisher in the men’s decathlon after the first day of competition today at the Drake Relays. The Terre Haute native finished with a personal best mark of 6375 points and ran a personal best time in the 1,500-meter as a finale.

Bertoli finished seventh among the twelve competitors over the two day decathlon. He recorded his best finishes with first-place marks in the 400-meter dash (49.28), pole vault (15 feet 3 inches) and 1,500-meter run crossing the line at 4:22.85.

“Anthony just had an up and down day” coach Angela Martin said. “I think he really finished strong in that 1,500-meter race and really stepped up.”

The Drake Relays will continue over the weekend with some of the best competition in the nation competing over the course of the final two days.

100-meter dash: 11.44 (5th)
Long jump: 19 feet 0 inches (11th)
Shot put: 30 feet 10.5 inches (11th)
High jump: 6 feet (t-7th)
400-meter dash: 49.28 (1st)

Discus: 76 feet 4 inches (11th)
Pole vault: 15 feet 3 inches (t-1st)
Javelin: 129 feet 7 inches
