SPARKS NAMED CONFERENCE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Indiana State senior Charlie Sparks was named the Missouri Valley Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday (4/11) for his performance at the Big Blue Classic. It was Sparks’ first award this year and first of his career.

Sparks improved on his NCAA regionally qualifying mark in the discus by throwing a first-place distance of 174’ at the Big Blue Classic in Charleston, Illinois over the weekend. The throw was 10-feet better than the second-place finisher from Louisville.

The men and women will be back in action this weekend as Indiana State will host the Pacesetter Invitational. The shot put, hammer throw and shuttle hurdle relay will begin at 3:00 p.m. at Mark’s Field on Friday afternoon. Events on Saturday will begin at Noon and be held at the Welch Track and Field complex on the campus of Rose-Hulman.
