YOLANDA WRIGHT NAMED TO ALL-DISTRICT SECOND TEAM

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State senior Yolanda Wright was named ESPN The Magazine Second-Team Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Wright, who carries a 3.50 cumulative grade point average in Chemistry, joined Southern Illinois’ Sarah Rinker on the District 5 Second Team which is made up of colleges and universities in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

Wright was one of only four NCAA regional qualifiers for the Sycamores after placing first in the triple jump at the MVC Outdoor Championships. The senior went into the meet having collected the triple jump title during the indoor season as well.

Her successes in the field events for Indiana State garnered six All-MVC selections and MVC Field Athlete of the Week honors.

In the classroom, Wright has also been recognized as an MVC scholar athlete, a four-time Verizon Scholar-Athlete, a two-time Arthur Ashe Scholar and was recently named Presidential Scholar-Athlete at ISU.

The Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA (the College Sports Information Directors of America), a 2,000 member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
