SYCAMORES COMPETE IN HOOSIER
HILLS OPEN
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana State track and
field teams had a good day at the Hoosier Hills Invitational on
Friday with several winning performances.
For the Lady Sycamores, Kylie Hutson continued
her dominance of the pole vault by winning the event with a leap of
3.80 meters. Angel Canada took third in the women’s shot put with a
throw of 12.67 meters while Lauren Martin was second in the triple
jump with a leap of 11.50 meters, Santia Spight was second in the
high jump with a leap of 1.68 meters, Janae Bridges second in the
long jump at 5.73 meters and Samantha McClendon fourth in the long
jump (5.52 meters). Walk-on freshman Dominique Sterling was sixth in
the weight throw (15.15 meters).
In the track events, Jeanne Roberts was third
(7.69) and Valara Anderson fifth (7.77) in a very close 60 meter
dash. Jeanae Bridges was third in the 200 meters (25.22), Hannah
Weide second (1:35.80) and Adriane Wunderlich third (1:36.85) in the
600 meters, Dani Prince fourth (2:16.22) in the 800 meters, Laura
Engle sixth in the mile (5:02.54), Kayla Alexander fourth in the
3000 meters (10:28.30), Myra Bess fourth in the 60 meter hurdles
(9.09).
The men team also had several outstanding
performances. Sean Wright won the 600 meters in 1:20.20 while Jordan
Fife was first in the mile run in 4:06.36 and Curt Sunderland took
first in the high jump (2.06 meters). Steve Daniel led a 1-2 finish
in the triple jump for Indiana State with a leap of 14.88 meters.
Corey Dowden was second at 14.76 meters. The other winner for the
Sycamores was Jeremy Gillingham in the weight throw with a toss of
18.13 meters.
In other track events, Jeramie Gray was fifth
in the 60 meters (7.03), James Twitchell fourth in the 600 meters
(1:22.04), Sean Bowman fifth in the mile (4:10.40), and Paladin
Jordan was second (8.37) and Clayton Wilson fourth (8.49) in the 60
meter hurdles. The ISU 4x400 meter relay “B” team of Brian Jackson,
Clayton Wilson, Kurt Heimann and Paladin Jordan, finished fourth in
that event in 3.18.95. Brandon Youngdale was second (2.01 meters)
and Corey Dowden fifth (1.96 meters) in the high jump, Gillingham
fourth (15.78 meters) and Matt Holbrook fifth (15.48 meters) in the
shot put, and Jake Conn was sixth and Anthony Bertoli seventh in the
pole vault, both finishing at 4.77 meters.
The Sycamores will now be preparing for the
Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships which will be held
next weekend at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
