SYCAMORES SET TO BEGIN OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD SEASON

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State University Sycamores will begin the outdoor track and field season this weekend as they travel to Southern Illinois University for the Spring Classic. A total of 17 schools will be represented at the meet which begins on Friday and concludes Saturday.

The men’s track and field team will begin their quest to repeat as the Missouri Valley Conference outdoor champion, which they won last year. The Sycamores had eight individual champions at the MVC meet last year and scored in all but one event. The women’s team will be looking to improve on their sixth place finish from a year ago. The 2007 MVC Outdoor Meet will be held May 10-12 at Des Moines, Iowa.

Indiana State is coming off an outstanding indoor season where the men finished second in the MVC Indoor Championships and the women third. ISU also had one individual compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships (Kylie Hutson, Terre Haute, Ind., freshman pole vaulter) with several school records established through the indoor season.

The Sycamores will be on the road for the entire outdoor season as they lone home meet, the Pacesetter Invitational, which was set for April 20-21, had to be cancelled due to the track at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology being unavailable that weekend. Indiana State will still be in competition that weekend as they will travel to Louisville, Ky., to compete in the Cardinal Invitational on Apr. 20-21.
