CARRUTHERS, WRIGHT HONORED BY MVC IN
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State senior Jason
Carruthers and sophomore Sean Wright were named the Missouri Valley
Conference Athlete of the Week for men’s track and men’s field.
Wright won the 400 meter dash (47.06) at the
Southern Illinois University Spring Classic, a time that also
qualified him for the NCAA Regionals. Wright was also a member of
the third place 4xs100 meter relay team (41.83).
Carruthers won the men’s hammer throw
(193-feet-4-inches) and the men’s discus (170-feet-10) at the
Southern Illinois University Spring Classic this past weekend. Both
efforts qualified him for the NCAA regionals this May.
The Sycamores captured the men’s and women’s
title at the Spring Classic, the first outdoor event of the season
for Indiana State, who will travel to the University of Missouri for
the Missouri Relays this weekend.
Indiana State freshmen Erica Moore and Lauren
Martin were named as notable performers for the women’s track and
field by the Missouri Valley Conference.
Moore took first place in the 400 meter hurdles
at the Southern Illinois University Spring Classic with a school
record time of 59.54, which was also fast enough to become a
regional qualifier. Moore was also third in the 100 meter hurdles
(15.21) and a member of the second place 4x400 meter relay team
(3:49.27).
Martin was second in the women’s triple jump
(39-feet-2.5) and third in the women’s long jump (18-feet-10.5) at
the Southern Illinois University Spring Classic. She was also a
member of the second place 4x400 meter relay team (3:49.27). |
