SYCAMORE MEN WIN THREE MEETS,
WOMEN ONE AT INVITATIONAL
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Indiana State men’s track
and field team won three dual meets and five NCAA Midwest Regional
qualifying efforts while the women’s team won one of three dual
meets and had one regional qualifying effort at the Cardinal
Invitational Saturday.
The Indiana State men defeated Indiana 103-76,
Louisville 95-90 and Butler 131-15. The Indiana State women defeated
Butler 123-15 but lost 95-87 to Indiana and 101-79 to Louisville.
The men’s team had a sweep of the top four
spots in the 3000 meter steeplechase led by Kyle Walsh who won the
event in 9:14.47 which moved him into ISU’s top 10 I that event.
Scott Keeney was second (9:17.10), Antonio McDaniel third (9:30.12)
and Eric Schulz fourth (9:38.63).
“Kyle probably would have made the qualifying
mark but he hit the last water jump and lost six to eight seconds in
the water,” said John McNichols, ISU men’s track and field coach.
Sean Wright and Paladin Jordan were regional
qualifiers in winning performances Saturday as Wright won the 400
meters with a time of 46.25 and Jordan took the 400 meter hurdles in
51.80. Wright’s time also set a new school record for the 400
meters, breaking the old mark set in
1984
by Dwight Williams at 46.27. Jordan also won the 110 meter
hurdles with a time of 14.65. Also a regional qualifier in a winning
effort was the 4x400 meter relay team of Sean Wright, Bryant Kent,
Kurt Heimann and Logan Edwards who combined for a first place finish
in 3:09.36.
Kurt Heimann was the fourth ISU winner at the
meet with a victory in the 800 meters for the Sycamores with a time
of 1:51.44.
Also for the men’s team, Gary Ogburn was second
in the 200 meters (22.41), Adam Lies third in the 200 meters
(22.42), Patrick Mendenhall fourth in the 200 meters (22.57), Logan
Edwards third in the 400 meters (48.27), Brad Ada was third in the
800 meters (1:53.12), John Lambertus fourth in the 800 meters
(1:54.39), Sean Bowman third in the 1500 meters (3:50.04), Paladin
Jordan third in the triple jump (47-feet-11.25), Jason Carruthers
third in the discus (168-feet-2) and second in the hammer throw
(196-feet-6) which also topped the regional qualifying mark, Corey
Dowden second in the triple jump (50-feet-2) which was a regional
qualifying mark and fourth in the high jump (6-feet-6.75), Curt
Sunderland second in the high jump (6-feet-8.75), Brandon Youngdale
third in the high jump (6-feet-6.75), and Jake Conn second in the
pole vault (15-feet-7).
The Indiana state men’s 4x100 meter relay team
(Antinoice Surry, Sean Wright, Logan Edwards and Gary Ogburn)
finished second in 40.98.
Erica Moore was a winner for the Indiana State
women’s team with a victory in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of
59.71 which was also a regional qualifying time. Janae Bridges was
also a winner, taking first in the long jump with a leap of
39-feet-4.75-inches (5.91 meters). Leah Durr took first in the 3000
meter steeplechase with a time of 13:13.24. Santia Spight won the
high jump (5-feet-7).
Jeanne Roberts finished third in the 100 meters
(12.05) and fourth in the 200 meters (24.77). Mary Kate Conway was
second in the 400 meters (57.50), Katie Weber second in the 800
meters (2:17.17), Myra Bess fourth in the 100 meter hurdles (14.58)
and third in the 400 meter hurdles (1:02.61), Kylie Hutson second in
the javelin (125-feet-3) and second in the pole vault
(11-feet-11.75), and Lauren Martin fourth in the triple jump
(36-feet-0.75)
The women’s 4x100 meter relay team (Myra Bess,
Janae Bridges, Jeanne Roberts and Lauren Martin) finished third in
46.58, and the 4x400 meter relay team (Lauren Martin, Myra Bess,
Adriane Wunderlich, and Erica Moore) was second in 3:47.96. |
