FOUR ISU TRACK ATHLETES NAMED TO ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
NEW ORLEANS – Four Indiana State University track and field athletes have been named to 2007 U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association Division 1 All-Academic team.
Danielle Prince was named to the 2007 USTFCCCA Division 1 women’s team with Jason Carruthers, Kurt Heimann and Sean Bowman named to the 2007 USTFCCCA Division 1 men’s team.
Carruthers, a senior, competed in the hammer throw and the discus competition at the NCAA Mid-East Regional. He was the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor champion in the hammer this season while placing third in the discus and 12th in the shot put.
Heimann, a junior, competed in the 800 meters and was a member of ISU’s 4x400 meter relay team at the Mid-East Regional. Heimann was third in the 800 meters at the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships and finished 9th at the NCAA Mid-East Regional. The 4x400 meter relay team of Heimann, Logan Edwards, Bryant Kent and Sean Wright placed 7th overall.
Bowman, a junior, competed in the 3000 meter steeplechase at the NCAA Mid-East Regional and placed 19th overall. Bowman was second in the event at the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships.
Prince, a senior, competed in the 5000 meters at the Mid-East Regional. She was the 10,000 meter champion at the 2007 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships and was third in the 5,000 meters. Prince was 14th overall at the NCAA Mid-East Regional.
The USTFCCCA honors Division 1 individuals for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track season. To qualify, one must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 and obtain an NCAA automatic or provisional qualifying mark for the most recent indoor championships or an outdoor regional qualifying mark in their respective event.
A total of 415 student-athletes representing 117 Division 1 colleges and universities make up the women’s All-Academic team. There were 233 student-athletes from 88 colleges and universities that comprised the men’s All-Academic team. |
