SYCAMORES DROP TIGHTLY CONTESTED MATCH TO NORTHERN IOWA

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Indiana State contended with perennial MVC power Northern Iowa on Friday night at West Gym but in the end did not have enough to overtake the Panthers dropping a 3-0 decision. Game scores were 30-26, 30-26, 30-28.

The Sycamores scrapped its way through the first two games and were able to keep close despite only posting nine kills in each of the first two games and hitting .050 and .053, respectively. In game two, Tessa Wolf served six straight points for ISU, including two kills by Christy Trame, to give the Sycamores a 21-19 advantage. But a timeout ended the run and the Panthers recovered to earn the win.

In the third game, both teams broke out of the struggles as each posted 20 kills. The Sycamores hit .357, while UNI recorded a .550 attack percentage. The intense final game saw 12 lead changes and seven ties, and the Sycamores took a 28-27 lead on a kill by Trame, but the Panthers ran off the final three points to seal the win.

ISU was led by Tessa Wolf who posted 12 kills on 22 swings with only two errors to record a .500 attack percentage. Christy Trame also recorded 10 kills, while Meghan Pollard had a team-high 11 digs.

The Sycamores also out blocked the MVC-leading Panthers, 7-6, with Trame and Wolf leading ISU with three blocks apiece.

UNI improves to 16-8 overall and 10-3 in the MVC, while ISU falls to 0-25 on the season. The Sycamores head to Bradley on Saturday night for their final road contest of the year.
