Box Score
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State battled
with Southern Illinois on Friday night at ISU Arena, but the Salukis
held on to earn the victory, 3-1 in MVC action. Game scores were
30-27, 29-31, 32-30, 30-19.
The Sycamores recorded 61 kills in the match, the second most this
season in a four-game match, but could not overcome 42 hitting errors
on the night. ISU held an 18-14 advantage in kills in the first
game but 12 errors led to a 1-0 advantage for the Salukis. The Sycamores
battled back in game two and with the score tied at 29, Meghan Pollard
posted two service aces to earn the win and knot the game at 1-1.
In the third game, the lead went back and forth down the stretch
and was eventually tied at 30-30. The match turned on the next point
when it appeared that the Sycamores would have a game point after
a Saluki ball flew long. However, it was ruled to have touched a
Sycamore at the net and the point was rewarded to SIU who responded
with the game winner on the next point to earn a 32-30 win. The
Salukis took the momentum from the victory and jumped out to a quick
lead in game four and never looked back as they cruised to a 30-19
clinching win.
Freshman Christy Trame led the Sycamores offensive attack with
18 kills and a .353 attack percentage. Senior Tessa Wolf posted
a career-high seven blocks, including three solo blocks, and 16
kills in the match. Meghan Pollard recorded a team-high 18 digs,
while Kristy Cox added 12.
Johannah Yutzy was the difference for the Salukis as she posted
a match-high 22 kills on just 35 swings for a .514 attack percentage.
Yutzy led SIU to its fourth win in six matches as the Salukis improve
to 9-13 on the season and 5-7 in MVC action, while the Sycamores
fall to 0-23 on the year.
The Sycamores face MVC rival Evansville on Saturday night (Oct.
29) at ISU Arena beginning at 7 pm.
