SYCAMORES FALL TO EASTERN ILLINOIS IN CLOSE MATCH

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. The volleyball team was in action Tuesday night against the visiting Eastern Illinois University Panthers. The team got off to a tremendous start with a 32-30 victory in the opening game. They went on to drop the next two 30-28 and 30-25 respectively. In the fourth game they came on strong posting a 30-19 victory. This sent the match to a decisive fifth game where the Sycamores built a lead but saw it slip away, eventually losing 15-8 in the final game.

There were several bright spots for the Sycamore’s on the evening with Freshman Kelli Whitaker (New Palastine, Ind. / New Palestine H.S.) posting a team-high 16 kills. She was followed up by the continued strong all-around play of Senior Stephanie Roof (Bloomington, Ill. / Normal Community H.S.) who came in second on the team with 13 kills and also registering a team-high 3 blocks.

The next game for the Sycamores is Friday September, 1 as they travel to the Duquesne Invitational (Pittsburg, Pa.) where their first opponent is St. Francis with the match scheduled to get underway at 3pm (ET).
