SYCAMORES FALL TO MISSOURI STATE (1-3)

Terre Haute, Ind. - - - The Sycamores were in action Saturday night against the visiting Bears of Missouri State. The Sycamores, again without Freshman Kelli Whitaker, found some answers to the Bears attack but fell short in the end. The win moves the Bears to (8-2) while the Sycamores are now (3-10).

This was one of the best team efforts that the Sycamores have seen this season, four players ended the night with double-digit kills and two player's notched double-digits in digs. Sophomore Stephanie Meier had a supreme all-around night, posting a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs. Freshman Stephanie Volden found her offensive groove with 11 kills and a .571 attack percentage. The Bears relied on their two offensive aces, Erin O’Connor and Shanda Harper, for much of the night as the totaled 14 and 13 kills respectively.

The story of the night for the Sycamore was their 37 total errors as opposed to the Bears 24. The Sycamores had much of their troubles while serving the ball with 15 total service errors. The first game of the night ended (30-14) as it looked to be a blowout by the Bears but in the second game the Sycamores came together as a team and came up with many timely points as the lead went back and forth which eventually sent the game to extra points. The second game finished with the Sycamores on top (35-33). In the third game the Sycamores looked to be in total control but as the errors began to pile up the game slipped away in favor of the Bears (30-27). The fourth game was hotly contested, more so then the score of (30-21) indicates. The fourth game finished up the match as the Missouri State Bears came away with the victory overall.

The Sycamores go on the road next week as they face Southern Illinois on Friday (9/22) at 7pm and play again Saturday (9/23) at Evansville with a start time of 7pm.
