INDIANA STATE FALLS
TWICE IN FINAL DAY OF OAKLAND INVITATIONAL
Rochester, Mich. --
Indiana State followed up its victory over host Oakland on the first
night of the Oakland Invitational with a pair of defeats at the
hands of Bowling Green and tournament victor Cleveland State on
Saturday evening. ISU is now 3-8 on the season, after going 1-2 at
this past weekend's tournament.
In the day's first match
against Bowling Green, the Sycamores fell by a score of 3-0 (30-14,
30-17, 30-25). ISU was paced by senior Stephanie Roof, who recorded
eight kills and hit .167 for the match. Freshman Kelli Whittaker was
equally outstanding with seven kills against the Falcons, and a
hitting percentage of .333. At the net, Roof had a block assist,
while Whitaker also added one as well.
Whitney Nichols posted 22 set
assists and Kristy Cox recorded seven digs.
In the day's second game, ISU
fell to Cleveland State by a score of 3-0 (30-18, 30-18, 30-18).
Cleveland State improved to 8-2 on the young season with the victory
over the Sycamores.
Whitaker led the way for
Indiana State with eight kills, while Roof added seven. Nichols was
credited with 24 assists and Cox had nine digs. Roof was solid at
net with four block assists versus the Vikings.
For her efforts during the
week, Whitaker was named to the all-tournament team, just one week
after earning similar honors at the Duquesne Tournament.
Indiana State returns to
action this weekend when they host Wichita State on September 15,
beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Sycamores will come right back on
Saturday night when they host Missouri State at 5:00 p.m. Both
matches will be held at ISU Arena.
