INDIANA STATE COMES AWAY WITH A VICTORY AGAINST DRAKE

Terre Haute, Ind. - - -
Friday night the Sycamores faced conference foe Drake and came away with a victory (3-1). This marked the Sycamores first conference victory of the year and their first home victory since November 2004. With the victory the Sycamores now stand at 4-12 (1-4 MVC) while the Drake Bulldogs fall to 3-11 (0-4 MVC).

It was clear from the beginning that the Bulldogs game plan was to go to their aces Eve Johnson and Emily Madden early and often. Johnson totaled 18 kills and 18 digs on the night while Madden notched 19 kills and 10 digs. The Sycamores seemed to find a jolt of energy with Freshman Kelli Whitaker back in the lineup as she lead the team with 16 kills while two other Sycamores totaled 10 apiece, Senior Stephanie Roof and Sophomore Stephanie Meier. Sophomore Kristy Cox (31 digs) routinely handles the bulk of the digs but on this night she got help from Stephanie Meier who chipped in with 26 digs to go along with her 10 kills. The story of the night was the errors; the Bulldogs tallied 41 errors to the Sycamores 28, as the difference proved to be the key to the Sycamore victory.

Game one went to the Sycamores who claimed a (30-27) advantage while in game two the Bulldogs came up with a (30-27) victory of their own. In the third game the Sycamores asserted their dominance with a (30-16) victory and wrapped up the night in the fourth game with a (31-29) victory.

The Sycamores are in action again tomorrow night (9/30) as they face visiting Creighton at 7pm in the ISU Arena.
