SYCAMORES BATTLE BUT
FALL SHORT TO SOUTHERN ILLINOIS (1-3)
Carbondale, Ill. - - - The Sycamore's
opened their first Missouri Valley conference road swing of the
season with a tough opponent in the Saluki’s of Southern Illinois.
This game marked the return of Freshman Kelli Whitaker
who had sat out the past two games with injury.
The visiting Sycamore's came out of the gates slowly against their
conference foe in the first game as they fell (30-21). In the second
game they came back to win (30-25) in a game that saw the Sycamore's
tally 15 total kills as compared to the Saluki’s 7. The Sycamore's
looked to keep the momentum going into the third game but were countered
by a veteran Saluki team which sought to get some momentum of their
own as they won (30-23). The fourth game proved to be a carryover
from the third as the Sycamore's could not withstand the Saluki
offensive. The Saluki’s took the fourth game (30-19) and in
doing so won the match. The Saluki’s moved to (Overall: 7-6
Conference 2-1) while the Sycamores dropped to (Overall: 3-11 Conference:
0-3).
The Key performers for the Sycamore's were Senior Stephanie
Roof who lead the team in attack percentage (.179) and
Freshman Kristen Kerscher who was second on the
team in attack percentage (.150) and lead the team with a total
of 13 kills. The Saluki’s featured a three-headed attack of
Johannah Yutzy (12 kills), Kristie Berwanger (14 kills), and Haley
Hann (14 kills).
The Sycamore's are in action again tomorrow (9/23) as they travel
to Evansville for a 7pm start.
