GREAT DEFENSIVE EFFORT PROPELS SYCAMORES TO 80-57 VICTORY

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State women's basketball team held Bradley to 33 percent shooting (20-of-60) en route to an 80-57 victory over the Braves Thursday (Feb. 17) night in front of 2,899 at Hulman Center. The Sycamores, who made 28-of-53 (.528) shots from the field improve to 16-7 (9-5 MVC), while Bradley drops to 13-9 (6-7 MVC).

The Sycamores came out fired up early and jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead in the first two and a half minutes of the game. ISU stretched the lead to as many as 15 (35-20) before the intermission. Bradley pulled to within six (40-34) early in the second half as the Sycamores missed their first three shots of the second stanza. Stephanie Lisch got ISU back on track as she drove to the hoop to hit a wide open lay-up. The Braves once again clawed back and cut the lead to eight points (49-41) with 14:04 to go in the second half. ISU responded with a 13-1 run to extend the lead to 21 (63-42) en route to the win.

Five players finished in doube-digits for ISU. Melanie Boeglin and Lisa Verhoff paced the Sycamores with 16 points apiece. Ashley Clark chipped in 13 points and four rebounds. Stephanie Lisch added 12 points and three assists, while Anne Thatcher came off the bench to score 12 points.

Dena Williams led the way for the Braves with 13 points and six rebounds. Genny Mueller added 10 points, while Ashley Chelleen dropped in eight for Bradley in the losing cause.

Indiana State forced 19 Bradley turnovers and converted them into 27 points. Conversely, the Braves turned ISU's 17 turnovers into just eight points. The Sycamores also outscored the Braves in the paint, 30-26.

The Sycamores will return to the Hulman Center floor on Saturday (Feb. 19) when they host Northern Iowa at 2:00 p.m. The game will be televised locally by WTWO NewsChannel 2.
