TERRE HAUTE,
Ind. – Indiana State
forced 26 Illinois State turnovers and recorded 13 steals – four by
Missouri Valley Conference leader Melanie Boeglin as the Sycamores
sent off seniors Lindsay Galbraith and Nikki Hall in style with a
68-48 victory over the Redbirds. ISU concludes the regular season
with a 20-7 record, 13-5 in the Valley, while Illinois
State
finishes 10-17, 7-11 in the Valley.
ISU clinched the league’s number
two seed with the win, and will most likely face Bradley during
the State Farm MVC Tournament’s 1st round on Thursday
in Normal, Ill.
Junior Ashley Clark paced the
Sycamores with 19 points and 12 rebounds to post her sixth
double-double of the season. She hit 8-of-14 shots from the floor
and was a perfect 1-of-1 from behind the 3-point arch. ISU held a
23-11 advantage in points off turnovers by forcing 26 Redbird
miscues on the day. The Sycamores led wire-to-wire in closing out
its second 20-win campaign in three years.
Boeglin added 13 points for ISU
in the victory along with four assists and four steals. ISU posted
a season-high 49 rebounds in the victory.
The Sycamores failed to score 70
points for the first time since scoring 52 in a 60-52 loss at
Wright State
on Dec. 11, 2004 – a span
of 19 contests. ISU was two points shy of scoring at least 70
points in every conference game for the first time in school
history. The 19-game streak represents a school-record.

State
was paced by Jaci McCormack who hit 5-of-11 shots to score 15
points. The Sycamore defense held the ‘Birds to just 30.9%
shooting, including a 2-of-16 mark from long range.

State
did not enjoy a particularly strong night either, hitting just
32.8% of their shots, but were 23-30 from the free throw line in
the contest.
With the victory, Indiana
State
clinches the league’s number two seed and awaits the results of
the Creighton-Evansville contest for the league to announce final
pairings and start times for Thursday’s first round at Redbird
Arena. ISU finishes the year two games behind MVC Champion SMS,
who concluded the season with a 15-3 record.
