SYCAMORES ENDS RECORD-SETTING SEASON WITH 79-70 LOSS TO XAVIER

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State women's basketball team's season came to an end Monday (Mar. 21) night as the Sycamores fell to Xavier 79-70, in the second round of the Sportsview.tv WNIT. A crowd of 4,720 witnessed the game at Hulman Center, shattering the previous women's attendance record of 4,089 set on March 5, 2003.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair as there were five lead changes and six ties. Melanie Boeglin hit a lay-up with :09 to go to send ISU to the locker room with a two-point lead (35-33).

Indiana State moved ahead by four (43-39), but the Musketeers outscored the Trees 9-2 over the next 3:20 to take a 48-45 lead with 13:55 to play. Indiana State took a 53-52 lead on a three-point shot from Lisa Verhoff with 11:57 remaining in the game. Xavier's Tara Boothe knocked down a three-point shot with 11:37 to play, giving the Musketeers a lead (55-53) they would not relinquish.  Boothe's layup with 5:24 remaining gave the Musketeers an eight point advantage
(68-60).

Four Sycamores scored in double figures, led by Boeglin, who finished with 22 points. The junior guard finished the game shooting 8-of-15 from the floor and gathered seven rebounds. Lisa Verhoff chipped in 16 points, while Stephanie Lisch added 12.  Kristen Weddle added ten points on 4-of-10 shooting.

Boothe led the Musketeers (22-9) with a game-high 30 points and 11 rebounds. She shot 9-of-18 from the field and 9-of-13 from the free throw line. Suntana Granderson added 14 points for Xavier, while Adeola Olanrewaju tallied a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.

ISU finishes the season with a 23-9 record. The 23 victories are the most in ISU women's hoops history.
