SYCAMORE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ADDS CLINT WEDDLE AND SARAH SHACKLE TO COACHING STAFF

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State head women’s basketball coach Jim Wiedie announced this afternoon (May 15) that he has added Clint Weddle and Sarah Shackle to his coaching staff.

Weddle becomes the Sycamores’ new assistant coach and recruiting coordinator while Shackle joins the program as an assistant coach. They both come to ISU from the University of Indianapolis.

“We have made two strong additions to our coaching staff in Clint Weddle and Sarah Shackle,” Wiedie said. “Clint is a native of this community and brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the program. He has tremendous recruiting experience and his teams have been very successful in his previous coaching stops. Sarah is someone who earned a lot of experience as well in working with a very successful Greyhound program as both a coach and player. With these pieces in place, we look forward to continuing to build a program that the community will be excited to be a part of.”

Weddle, a native of Terre Haute, comes to ISU after spending the previous season at UIndy. He is the older brother of former Sycamore standout, Kristen Weddle. Last season the Greyhounds finished with a 16-11 record.

Weddle led Oakland City to an 18-12 finish in 2005-06 as the head women's basketball coach, a season that saw Oakland City win eight games in a row down the stretch and earn runner-up honors at the National Christian College Athletic Association tournament. After losing their first four games and seven of their first ten, Weddle led the Mighty Oaks to a 15-5 record once the calendar hit 2006 and helped the school earn a trip to the postseason NCCAA tournament.

In his debut season of 2004-05, Weddle guided Oakland City to a 17-12 ledger, the first year the program finished above .500 in the previous six seasons. The Lady Oaks capped their season with a third place NCCAA finish.

As a player, Weddle was a three-year team captain at Oakland City. As a sophomore, he was selected as an Honorable Mention All-American and was a Second Team All-American during his junior and senior campaigns. Weddle is OCU's fifth all-time leading scorer with 1,648 points during his career. He also holds the single season record for 3-pointers made (108) and the career record for 3-pointers made. During his four years, he averaged 15 points and shot 41% from the field.

Weddle is a 1999 graduate of Terre Haute North Vigo High School and a 2004 graduate of Oakland City University. At OCU, Weddle graduated with a B.S. in Business Management and a B.S. in Business Education with a Minor in Psychology and a Vocational Education Endorsement.

“I am extremely excited to begin work with the Sycamore women’s basketball program,” Weddle said. “I want to thank coach Wiedie and Ron Prettyman for allowing me to be apart of this program, and this community. I have a lot of respect for what has happened in this program over the past few years - from watching it take shape to it becoming a championship caliber program. It has been a lot of fun to see that over the years.”

Also joining the Sycamore program is Shackle, who recently completed her third season as an assistant coach with the Greyhounds.

Shackle played on the Greyhounds' 2002-03 team that won a school-record 29 games and the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season and tournament titles.

She earned the Kelso Reid Mental Attitude Award in her senior season after helping the Hounds to a 23-9 mark and their second consecutive NCAA Tournament berth.

Shackle graduated from UIndy with a degree in Exercise Science.

“I am very excited to be a member of the Sycamore women’s basketball program,” Shackle said. “I was able to come over for a couple of games last season and it is going to be great to be a part of a program that the community is so excited about.”

Both Weddle and Shackle will begin their duties at Indiana State immediately. Weddle replaces Megan Lanham, who recently left to take a similar position at Southern Illinois. Shackle replaces Nicki Motto, who left the program following the 2006-07 season.
