Thank you for your interest in Indiana State University’s Athletic Training
Department. At Indiana State, we take pride in our internationally recognized
athletic training education programs. These programs are taught through ISU’s
Athletic Training Department, the only one of its kind at an NCAA Division I
public institution. The size and diversity of our faculty and staff (twelve
Certified Athletic Trainers, four of whom have Ph.D.’s) is unmatched by any
other athletic training education program. The results speak for themselves. Our
alumni are successful at every level of athletic training and no other
university has produced more athletic trainers. When addressing our students
during a visit to our university, National Athletic Trainers’ Association
Executive Director, Eve Becker-Doyle described our alumni as the “movers and
shakers” of the athletic training profession.
The Athletic Training Department has recently re-designed our curriculum to emphasize additional opportunities to learn over time, and includes additional courses in emergency care and conditioning. We believe that the new curriculum will provide you with the most advanced theory and clinically-relevant experiences.
At ISU, the first year will be spent in the pre-professional component of the program where you will complete many of the University's required core curriculum. You will also complete athletic training pre requisite course work (such as human anatomy & human physiology), and job shadowing. During the Spring semester of your freshmen year, you will apply for acceptance into the professional component of the program. In the professional component, you will take advanced athletic training course work and will complete several clinical experiences with intercollegiate athletics at ISU, local colleges, high schools, and health care clinics. We are constantly striving to provide new and varied clinical sites that provide our students with the best professional preparation anywhere. Completing our CAATE accredited undergraduate program ensures that you will meet all of the qualifications necessary to sit for the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification Exam
I am delighted with your interest in our undergraduate program and look forward to speaking with you in the future. If you have any questions about Indiana State University, our athletic training major, or athletic training in general, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Lindsey Eberman, PhD, LAT, ATC
