Alumni & CareersOpportunities for careers in criminology and criminal justice continue to expand. As a graduate you will have opportunities available in the areas of:
Students who major in criminology and criminal justice have traditionally pursued careers in teaching, research, or some phase of the criminal justice system. Generally, students with a Bachelor's degree are qualified for lower- and middle-level positions. Many students who earn the Bachelor's degree enter a law school or a graduate program in criminology or some related discipline. Master's degree students can often qualify for middle- and upper-level positions in the criminal justice system. Completion of the Ph.D. degree is the usual prerequisite for appointment to a college-level teaching position. The graduates of Indiana State University in criminology and criminal justice over the last few years have been rather successful in obtaining suitable employment in the criminal justice field and in securing admission to law schools or graduate study programs. However, it should be noted that success in such endeavors is enhanced by demonstrated knowledge of the discipline as well as mastery of communicative and research skills, so the student is encouraged to plan his or her program to identify and eliminate any weaknesses in these areas.

Act Now to have
your organization represented at the Twenty-Second Annual Indiana State
University Criminology and Criminal Justice Career Fair!
Criminal justice and human service
agencies as well as private employers from around the country will be
gathering at Indiana State University to recruit for current and future
positions, as well as for internship opportunities.
Approximately 52 agencies and more than 600 students attended last
year’s Career Fair. We are expanding the focus of the Career Fair to include human
service organizations that work with juvenile and adult offenders or others
who may be involved with the justice system.
The objective of the Career Fair
is to offer students an opportunity to learn about the many types of careers
for which a degree in one of the social sciences can prepare them.
It also allows professionals the opportunity to meet our students and
see their potential as future employees.
The Career Fair provides your organization with an excellent public
relations opportunity, even if you are not actively recruiting.
The Career Fair will be open to all ISU students and alumni.
In addition to Criminology majors, students in fields such as
Psychology, Business, Social Work, Life Sciences and Technology also attend. The ISU Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice
offers a comprehensive curriculum that prepares students to enter a wide
range of career fields. The
department offers the Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Master of
Arts degrees. At present, the
Criminology Department has approximately 500 undergraduate students and 150
graduate students- a large pool of potential and qualified employees.
ISU also has enrollment of over 11,300 students, of which 13% are
members of U.S. minority groups.
