Return to tutorial list

You have control over how the information in the gradebook is presented to you, create categories, and adjust scoring..  To adjust these settings you will need to log on to Blackboard, enter your course, and click on Control Panel in the bottom left of the screen.

In the Control Panel screen locate the Assessment area and click on the Gradebook link.

In the View Spreadsheet screen, click on the Gradebook Settings icon.

Click on Spreadsheet Settings to change how student names are presented in the gradebook.

By default names are ordered by last name, however you can also have names sorted by first name, User ID or Student ID.  One you have selected your preferred method of display, click on Submit.

If you click on submit a confirmation screen will open.  Click on the OK button to continue.

Blackboard allows you to create you own categories for grades.  This can come in handy if from the gradebook you wish to filter grades using categories.  Click on Manage Gradebook Categories to add or modify categories.

In this example students are required to submit a three dimensional model of a widget.  Because model is not a category in the gradebook you will need to create the category.  Give the new category a unique name and a brief description.

Click on the Submit button to create your new category.

After clicking submit, the confirmation screen will open.  Click on the OK button to continue.

The last option perhaps is one of the more powerful control you have over the gradebook, in that in this section you can control how grades are assigned and displayed.  Click on Manage Display Options to enter this area.

You can change letter grade percentages to suit how you grade assignments or assessments.  Start by clicking on the Copy button to make a copy of the default letter grade.  This way any changes you make will be on the copy and not the original letter grade.

When you see Copy of Letter appear click on the Modify button.

In this example we will be changing a letter grade to a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grade.

First change the name to S/U.

In the next frame you will see how the default setting for a letter grade.  Because we only need two option remove all grades except for two.

On the two remaining grades change the percentages and how the grade will be displayed to reflect a Satisfactory and Unsatisfactory performance.  To change these, highlight what you want to change and type in the new values or characters

Once you have made all needed changes, click on Submit to continue.

After clicking on Submit the confirmation page will open.  Click on the OK button to continue.

When you return to the Manage Display Options screen, your new grading option will appear.
