Link Checker

Return to tutorial list

Link Checker will see if the links within your course are working.

Login into Blackboard and select the course that needs to have all external links checked.  Click on the Control Panel link and in the control panel you will find Link Checker in the Course Tool area.  Click on Link Checker.

This process may take a few minutes, but Link Checker will no go through your course and evaluate all external links.  This includes links that you inserted using the External Link tool, or those links you included in HTML documents.

Each link is evaluated and a status report is provided for each link on the page.  The categories are

Title – This is the name of the link. For example a link may be titled ISU and link to the university’s homepage.

URL – This is the web address that is associated with the title.  As in the previous example this url would be http://www.indstate.edu.

Location – This refers to where the link can be found in your course

Availability – In Blackboard you can select if an item is available for view. This column reports if the item is or isn’t available for viewing.

Valid - This is the column that indicates if the link is working or not. A green checkmark indicates the link is valid. A red X indicates the link is not working.

Hide – If you decide that you do not want a link to be available (most likely because it is not working) you can select to hide the link by clicking on the checkbox.

Once you have looked at all of your links and taken any appropriate action, click on submit

When Link Checker opens, click on the submit button on the lower right of the screen
