The Center for Instruction, Research, and Technology group assists faculty
and students with academic research posters and conference presentations.
Typically for poster sessions, IMDS will design a large format poster that
can either be rolled up for long distance traveling or mounted to foamcore
board to create a sturdy table display. Many faculty prefer to design their
own posters using Adobe Illustrator or Microsoft PowerPoint. This of course
if always encouraged, however please review the guidelines before submitting
files. If you prefer for our designers lay out the design, we ask that you
make an appointment at least 2-3 weeks before your expected travel date to
discuss the details of your poster. Before meeting with our designers, it
may be helpful to look over the
conference poster guidelines and tips
in order to understand the types of questions that will be asked.
IMDS does support the design and printing of student academic research posters
used at professional conference venues (on or off-campus). Faculty mentors or
instructors will need to contact our office in advance to receive approval.
Students cannot place project requests without prior notice from their faculty/department.
In-class student projects and presentations, especially graded projects, are not
considered professional conference venues and cannot be printed through our department.
Printing exceptions, at the request of the faculty, can be made for student posters used
at community and/or campus events that may not fall under the professional conference
category. In these instances, students are responsible for the poster design and
submitting completed files to the IMDS office for printing. If a student or class
needs assistance with designing their posters, they will need to contact the Student
Technology Resource Center. IMDS will not help assist with the design of non-academic research posters.
Please contact the IMDS office for further information or to discuss your next design project.
