One of the most important relationships a student will have on campus should be with his or her Academic Advisor. Make every effort to establish and maintain a good working relationship with your academic advisor.
Every student in the College of Education will be assigned an academic advisor. Advisor notifications are typically sent to students through their MyISU e-mail accounts.
Advisors are assigned by majors:
Early Childhood Education:
Students will be advised by a professional staff member in Education Student Services until they are admitted into the Teacher Education Program (TEP). After admission to TEP, students will be advised by faculty from the Department of Elementary, Early, and Special Education.
Elementary Education:
Students will be advised by a professional staff member in Education Student Services until they are admitted into the Teacher Education Program (TEP). After admission to TEP, students will be advised by faculty from the Department of Elementary, Early, and Special Education.
Library Media Services:
Students will be advised by faculty from the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Media Technology.
Special Education/Elementary Education Dual Program:
Students will be advised by a professional staff member in Education Student Services until they are admitted into the Teacher Education Program (TEP). After admission to TEP, students will be advised by faculty from the Department of Elementary, Early, and Special Education.
Speech Language Pathology:
Students will be advised by faculty from the Department of Communication Disorders.
Students that have other teaching majors will be assigned advisors by the appropriate unit for their major.
You can reach members of the University community through the ISU online directory.
Students should make appointments with their advisor at least once each semester. New students are encouraged to meet with their advisor more frequently. Only the academic advisor has the authority to give out Advisement PINs to students.
If you are unsure of who your academic advisor is, you should consult your DARS report or contact Education Student Services for assistance.
Take the time to prepare for any advising appointment to insure it will be successful for you and the advisor.
Make sure to make an appointment. Some things can be handled by phone or email, but a true advising interaction is aided by face-to-face contact. Be prepared with items of discussion that are concerns for your appointment.
After the appointment, follow through by utilizing the resources the advisor recommends for you.
