Admission to the Becoming a Complete Professional (BCP) Program is a critical benchmark for teacher
candidates. Until undergraduate students are admitted to the BCP, they do not have official status
in their academic programs for graduation and licensing. All students must be admitted into BCP
before they are eligible to enroll in any 300 or higher level professional education courses (excluding
CIMT350). Each teacher candidate is evaluated throughout his or her program by program faculty based
on academic and professional competencies. Continuation in the Becoming a Complete Professional
Program is dependent on satisfactory progress and assessments.

Criminal History Checks
Teacher candidates will be required to provide a current criminal history check to Education Student
Services before participating in field placement practicum courses and/or student teaching. School
districts and/or the College of Education may deny a practicum experience or student teaching
assignment based on the results of a criminal history check. The application process for a teaching
license in Indiana also requires a current criminal history check. Admission and/or
continuation in the BCP can be denied based on the results of a criminal history check.
Testing Requirement
As part of the admissions process to the BCP, students must submit official score reports on the
Praxis I tests to Education Student Services. All available Praxis I formats are acceptable (paper
based PPST or computer based CPPST). License level scores for Praxis I are: Reading 176, Writing 172,
Math 175.
Applying for Admission to BCP
All students should submit a Becoming a Complete Professional Program Application to
Education Student Services for review. Students will only be admitted if they have met all program
admission criteria. Typically, most students will be given application forms while they are
enrolled in EPSY 202 by a representative from Education Student Services.
Students in programs that
do not require EPSY 202 (Speech Language Pathology and Early Childhood Education), should go the
Education Student Services (Room 115, University Hall) to obtain an application.
Continued Admission Criteria for BCP
Once admitted to BCP, students must continue to meet performance guidelines to remain in BCP and to
continue to enroll in professional education courses. These guidelines include:
Remain declared in the same teaching major in which they were admitted into BCP;
Successfully complete all professional education courses with a grade of “C” or better;
Achieve a grade point average of 2.50 or higher in all professional education courses;
Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.50 or higher;
Receive favorable recommendations/evaluations from program faculty.
Student Teaching
Ideally, student teaching will be the final semester for students in teaching majors. In order
to be eligible for student teaching, students will need to have maintained their status in BCP by
successfully completing all required courses and having satisfactory evaluations by program faculty.
Each semester, a Student Teaching Enrollment Meeting (STEM) will be held for students that are
approximately one year away from their Student Teaching experience. Students are required to attend
this meeting for their placement and to verify their ongoing eligibility in BCP.
Obtaining Your Teaching License
Upon satisfactory completion of all degree requirements, all students in a teaching major may be
eligible for an Indiana Instructional License. To be recommended for a license, students must meet
the following criteria:
Completion of a baccalaureate degree program;
Qualifying scores on Praxis I tests;
Qualifying score(s) on needed licensure area Praxis II Specialty Exam(s);
Current acceptable Criminal History Check;
Appropriate license application fee
