Graduation and Institutional Recommendation
Verification that the approved teaching program has been completed satisfactorily is required
before a student is cleared for graduation. Verification that a candidate holds a bachelor's degree,
has completed the approved teaching program, and has passed the required state licensing tests are
required before an application for an initial instructional license (with institutional
recommendation for issuance) can be forwarded to the Indiana Professional Standards Board (IPSB).
Criteria for admission
The candidate must:
- Be in good standing in BCP-II; and
- Have an Indiana State University cumulative grade point average of 2.50 or higher;
and
- Have a grade point average of 2.50 or higher in the major and any teaching areas which are to
appear on the teaching license (i.e. minors, endorsements, primary and supporting areas);
[Normally, at least 50% of the teaching area must be completed at Indiana State University]
and
- Have grades of C or higher in all professional education courses attempted; and
- Have a grade point average of 2.50 or higher in the professional education courses;
and
- Have completed the specific Indiana State University program requirements in General Education,
professional education, and major as well as minor or endorsement or elective credit necessary
for degree completion; and
- Have a favorable recommendation for admission from the major department in addition to the
recommendation from the review department.
Procedures for securing the teaching license will be explained to students during their 300/400
level professional education or junior level major courses and in the student teaching seminar.
