The Grading System and GPA

At the end of each term, a valid grade should be assigned for every course in which a student was enrolled. Valid grades include:

"DP", "DF", and "WP" grades will not be calculated in the student's grade point average. "WF" grades will be calculated in the student's grade point average as an "F".

The Incomplete

An incomplete grade (IN) may be given only at the end of a semester to those students whose work is passing but who have left unfinished a small amount of work. An incomplete should be assigned only after a student and instructor have discussed the option and are in agreement on the assigning of the incomplete. When a grade of incomplete is assigned, the instructor will specify, via Web grading, the work necessary to complete the course and receive a grade, the deadline date for completion, and the grade to be assigned if the work is not completed by the specified date. The final valid grade can be any letter grade from A to F.

Course Repeat Policy

Any course may be repeated once for grade point average improvement. If a student completes a course a second time, the better of the two grades is used in the GPA calculation. All grades will be included in the student's transcript. If a student repeats a course twice, two of the three earned grades will be used in the GPA calculation.

Grade Point Average (GPA)

The grade point average is a numerical value which is obtained by dividing the number of grade points earned by the number of hours attempted. Calculate your ISU GPA.
