Vigo County Lifeline provides 24-hour crisis intervention/information and referral services to members of the Wabash Valley. Vigo County Lifeline also answers the Safe Schools Hotline and the WTHI Child Abuse Hotline. Although it serves the Wabash Valley only, referrals to crisis intervention/information and referral hotlines throughout the nation are available Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Another responsibility of Vigo County Lifeline is to maintain a computer database of social services and to publish the Vigo County Community Resource Directory, from which most of the information for this website was taken.

The crisis/information and referral hotline telephone number is 812-235-8333 for individuals residing in Vigo County or 1-800-377-LIFE for individuals residing outside Vigo County.
CRISIS INTERVENTION/INFORMATION AND REFERRAL HOTLINE: Trained staff and volunteers answer the Crisis/Information and Referral Hotline 24 hours a day/365 days per year. Types of calls handled include everything from food referrals to suicide.
SAFE SCHOOLS HOTLINE: The Safe Schools Hotline is answered by Vigo County Lifeline Volunteer Listeners. Listeners are trained by a representative of the Vigo County School Corporation to handle calls regarding school violence. Crisis intervention and information/referral is provided.
WTHI CHILD ABUSE HOTLINE: The WTHI Child Abuse Hotline is answered by Vigo County Lifeline Listeners. Listeners are trained by a representative of Vigo County Child Protective Services. Vigo County Lifeline can answer simple questions regarding child abuse. All suspicions and incidences of child abuse are promptly reported to Vigo County Child Protective Services.
VOLUNTEER AND INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES: Vigo County Lifeline is always looking for qualified volunteers from the community. Volunteers must be dependable and have a strong desire to work with people. Lifeline Listeners enjoy the convenience of answering calls from their home after participating in the initial training courses. Volunteers will receive intensive training in the areas of Listening Skills, Child Abuse, Domestic Violence, Grief and Bereavement, Suicide, Substance Abuse, School Violence, Mental Health and other issues.
Vigo County Lifeline also works in cooperation with local colleges to enable students to complete internships. Interns gain valuable experience that includes training in the aforementioned subjects, a broad knowledge base of the social services available in Vigo County, and crisis intervention skills. Interns have the option to tour other social service agencies to gain a better understanding of the services they offer.
