  Adjust Brightness and Contrast

At times you may have an image that is too dark or too light or perhaps the color seems wrong.  These can be adjusted by using either the Auto Correct feature or manually making adjustments.

When you first select an image for editing you are given the opportunity to use the Auto Correct feature.

When you click on the Auto Correct button the program will adjust the brightness and color of the image.

If the color in the original image is ok, but you need to adjust brightness click on the Brightness and Contrast link.  Once you Brightness and Contrast control panel opens you can either use the automatic adjustment by clicking on the Auto Brightness button or manipulate the image manually using the brightness and contrast settings.

Below is the image without any brightness adjustment.  The control for brightness is set as zero indicating that not change has been made.

In this image brightness has been increased by 10.  If you compare this image to the original you can see that the paper is lighter and some of the detail in the paper has been lost.

In this instance the brightness has been decreased by ten.  The paper appears to be a little darker and some of the details in the darker portions of the image have been decreased.

Below is the image without any contrast adjustment.  The control for contrast is set as zero indicating that not change has been made.

In the following image the contrast has been increased by 20.  The edges and smaller details appear a little more crisp.

In this images  the contrast has been decreased by 20.  The colors appear a little more faded.  If taken to the extreme the image would appear to be a grey screen.
