The course will discuss the dynamics of the parent-teacher-child relationship with emphasis on the teacher’s role as partner and counselor. The course will also discuss the techniques and program designs in working with parents and children. Significant recent developments in involving families and utilizing community resources will be addressed. Student will evaluate existing family involvement program through action-research in varied school, home, and community. The elements of developing effective communication skills with parents from diverse cultural background will be emphasized in this class. Innovative approaches to strengthen family-teacher-child relations will be stressed.

Scheduling: This is a three-hour, semester-based course, with starting periods in the fall semester.
