  Step 1:  Admission

To enroll in a distance course or program, an individual must be admitted to the University as either a degree-seeking or non-degree seeking student. For instructions, go to undergraduate or graduate admission.

Note:  Applicants interested in the L.P.N./L.V.N. to B.S. Program follow a unique set of procedures to apply for admission and to get started. For step-by-step instructions, go directly to LPN/LVN to BS Program.

  Step 2:  Financial Aid

Students seeking undergraduate or graduate degrees (or pursing required teacher certifications) may be eligible for financial aid programs. For instructions and on-line application, visit financial aid.

  Step 3:  Veterans Services

Indiana State University is an approved veterans benefits institution. For basic information on eligibility (and links to applications and instructions) visit:

  Step 4:  Transfer Credit

Upon completion of the admission process, academic advisors review students' transcripts to determine which credits will transfer. Students should contact their advisors to discuss their transferable credits and plan their schedules for the semester.

  Step 5:  Distance News (E-Newsletter)

Distance News is a free e-newsletter that contains University announcements to help students start and complete their ISU courses and degrees. Subscribe now >>

  Step 6:  MyISU Portal

The MyISU Portal offers access to on-line registration, a student's University records, e-mail, and other services. Once admitted, students should activate their Sycamore login on the MyISU Portal.

Note:  Students will need their University ID numbers (found on their acceptance letters), date of birth, and the last four digits of Social Security Number. International students will need their University ID numbers, date of birth, and the email address they used when they applied.

  Step 7:  Advisement

Once admitted, students seeking undergraduate or graduate degrees (or programs) must contact their academic advisors, who will provide the necessary information to register. For contact information, see academic advisors.

  Step 8:  Registration

Courses (and instructions) are located in the Class Schedule on the MyISU Portal.

  Step 9:  Bookstore

Visit the ISU bookstore to purchase textbooks and other course materials.

  Step 10:  Student ID Card

Once admitted, students must obtain their student identification cards (ID) to access University services.

To request an ID, contact Traffic and Parking Services at (812) 237-8888 or ISU-Parking@mail.indstate.edu

The e-mail must include:

  • Student's name
  • Student's 991 number
  • Student's complete mailing address (street and/or post office box)

  Step 11:  Starting Courses

  • Distance courses:  To access courses, log on to the MyISU Portal and click the "My Courses" tab. Typically, courses are not accessible until the first day of class.
     
  • On-campus courses:  Dates, times, and locations are listed in the class schedule.

  Step 12:  Sycamore Express

Sycamore Express provides one-stop answers and assistance for currently enrolled ISU students. Once admitted and registered for classes, students should visit and bookmark this site for assistance with billing and finances, graduation, and more.

Distance Education Students Residing Outside of Indiana:  Each of the states has its own approval processes for out-of-state institutions offering distance education. While Indiana State University endeavors to offer all of its programs to as wide an audience as possible, all ISU distance education programs may not be available in all states. 

The Catalog of Indiana State University is the document of authority for all students. The requirements given in the catalog supersede information issued by any academic department, program, college, or school. The University reserves the right to change the requirements at any time.
