CIMT 509 Selection of Library Materials—3 credits. Selection and evaluation of print and non-print materials for school and public libraries. Emphasis is on the process of building library collections.
CIMT 512 Literature for Young People—3 credits. An overview of the role of literature in society and its impact on supporting and extending lifelong learning. Emphasis is on developmental strategies that enable the reader to create, critique, discuss, and enjoy literature including a wide variety of genres. The respect for diversity in society, language, cultural, and ethnic customs is also emphasized.
CIMT 522 Introduction to Cataloging and Classification—3 credits. Methods and tools employed in the organization of all forms of information for library use. Emphasis is on the standard cataloging and classification methodology in the organization of information.
CIMT 631 Reference Sources and Services for Library Media—3 credits. An introduction to standard sources of reference information for school and public libraries. Both print and non-print formats are addressed. Also included is the theory and practice of reference services. This course is cross listed as 431/531.
CIMT 656 School and Public Library Administration—3 credits. An examination of the organization, operation, planning, and equipping of school and public libraries. Emphasis is on the role of the professional in the program.
