The Department of Economics offers studies leading to Licensure for public school teaching in Economics. This licensure program is available to current teachers in secondary schools and to students pursuing a major in Social Studies Education in the ISU College of Arts and Sciences.
Students pursuing a major in Social Studies Education should familiarize themselves with the requirements of the teaching curriculum and admission to the Teacher Education Program. Refer to the ISU catalog section for the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Media Technology in the College of Education.
Students in this program may choose to concentrate in any three of the following licensure areas: economics, geography, government, history, psychology, and sociology. To ensure broad competence in the social sciences, students are also required to complete one course in each teaching area, for a total of 9 credit hours outside their chosen concentrations. Students who do not choose history as one of their licensure areas must complete two history courses, for a total of 12 credit hours outside their chosen concentrations. For a full description of the Social Science Education Program, see the Social Science Education section of this catalog.
