Permanent Art Collection
Ed Paschke
(1939-2004)
Lived in
Illinois, known for Mod Portrait and Figure, and Illustrator. A
student of the Art Institute of Chicago and a teacher at
Northwestern University in Evanston, IL., Paschke became associated
with other Chicago artists in a self titled group the “Harry Who”.
In response to an art critic during the time who did not look
favorably on the current trends in art-making.
Reacting to
the Pop Art Movement in New York, the Chicago Imagist Movement was
born. Influenced by urban street culture and popular images in
magazines, combined with an acidic use of color and flat application
of paint. Paschke’s paintings are confrontational and provoking.
