Ida Kohlmeyer
(1912-1997)
Lived in
Louisiana, known for Abstraction, and Sculpture. One of the most
prominent Abstract Expressionist painters of the South, he painting
career started mid-life upon earning her MFA from Tulane University
at age forty-five.
Influenced by
colleagues Hans Hoffman and Mark Rothko, Kohlmeyer’s paintings use a
grid system incorporating her own personalized symbols and
hieroglyphs.
