James Rosenquist (1933 - )

Born in Grand Forks, North Dakota and studied at Minneapolis Art Institute and University of Minnesota.  Trained as a billboard painter, he took those skills of proportion and scale and juxtaposed them with a love for surrealism and images from mass media and pop culture to create his monolithic works of art.

Referencing war, consumerism and mass production of goods, Rosenquist is considered one of the key figures in the development of Pop Art.
