Permanent Art Collection
Leonard Baskin
(1922 – 2000)
Lived in
Massachusetts, known for Figure-Bird, Graphics, and Sculptor.
A student at the
Educational Alliance in New York City, in the 1930’s, Baskin work
did not mature until the 1950’s after extensive travel through
Europe.
His figures
and forms take on a mythological feel that would be associated with
the German Die Brucke Movement. Baskin was a teacher at Smith
College in Massachusetts. Four of the five Baskin prints in our
collection were executed in 1998 while he served as a visiting
artist on campus.
