Rene Magritte (1898 - 1967)
Magritte was a
student at Academic Royale des Beaux Arts, in Brussels. Magritte’s
development and contribution to surrealism is directly linked to the
DaDa artists Max Ernst and Giorgio de Chirico.
Surrealism
defines a specific place and is altered through collage to match the
artists’ vision. Magritte’s flat direct style of painting brings a
weight and confrontational presence to the viewer.
