Robert Rauschenburg (1925-)

Known primarily as an assemblage artist and printmaker.  Rauschenberg, a student of Joseph Albers, John Cage, and Merce Cunningham at Black Mountain College where he began his “combine” paintings.

Using non-traditional material to paint on and collage into the canvas, Rauschenberg’s work requires active participation and interaction with the viewer.  His prints are multi-layered collages ranging in subject matter from politically charged to whimsical.
