Poverty, hunger, and homelessness

     
 

Course Description

This course examines issues related to poverty, hunger, and homelessness, with a special focus on the degree to which these societal ills adversely affect individuals and families in the Wabash Valley (Terre Haute and the surrounding counties). 

The first part of the semester is run as a seminar where we will discuss readings on ethics, leadership, community engagement, and activism.  For the second part of the semester students work through a series of problem-based inquiries and develop a presentation that discusses ways in which poverty, hunger, and homelessness may be eradicated. 

Over the course of the semester students have the opportunity to participate in a number of co-curricular activities, including the Hull House Service Learning trip.
