TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

2008 SUPERVISORY CERTIFICATION TRAINING

Human Resources is pleased to offer their outstanding series of professional development workshops in supervisory training. The program is open to any ISU employee who supervises at least one full-time staff member or student employee. To be certified, participants must attend all 13 of the required classes, and pass a written assessment over the material presented in the required courses. Participants have two years to complete the program.

The program will begin Wednesday, September 10, 2008 and continue every Wednesday from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. through the first week of December.

A tentative schedule and the courses that will be offered:

September 10     Essential Skills of Leadership

September 17     Developing Performance Goals and Standards

September 24     Sexual Harassment & Diversity in the Workplace

October 1            Interviewing/Selection Techniques/EOE and the Applicant
                              Tracking System

October 8            Selecting and Supervising Manpower Employees

October 15          Public Safety - Violence in the Workplace

October 22          Stress Management

October 29          Essential Skills of Communicating

November 5        Effective Discipline

November 12      FMLA/Worker’s Compensation/Environmental Safety

November 19      Discipline and Grievance/HR Policies

November 26      Customer Service (Sycamore Service)

December 3        Supporting Change

To enroll or for further information, please call Lana Tolbert or Scott Walden in Human Resources at x4375. Participation is on a first-come basis to the first 17 callers who supervise regular full-time employees and the first 8 who supervise student workers. All who register must do so with the intent of obtaining certification.
