Reading & Writing 1
In Reading/Writing 1, students learn the mechanics of writing simple, compound and complex sentences with correct punctuation and capitalization. Emphasis is put on correct sentence structure using the appropriate nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. In addition, students keep a notebook journal where they write about a variety of topics.

Reading/Writing 1 students do various reading activities where they learn to extract main ideas and answer questions about the reading passage. They also read a simplified novel.

In order to provide the students with additional reading materials, they are taken to the Vigo County Public Library where they choose novels for individual reading.
